A Course Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) was designed to perform Cotton Unknown Protein Analysis (CUPA-CURE). This course was developed as a collaboration with Dr. Amanda Storm at Western Carolina University to teach undergraduate students basic bioinformatic techniques and tools while also providing a useful resource to the cotton community. We provide support in several ways by creating tools like the “Cotton Gene Search” that have a simple interface for students to work with for the class. Additionally we aid in the curation of what unknown genes are of the best use for students both for their experience and for the benefit of the scientific community.
