Molly Irvin is a PhD student at NCSU. Her primary area of research is in developing genomic resources for plant disease resistance breeding. Her current project is focused on assessing virulence variation in the fungus Cronartium quercuum f. sp. fusiforme, the causal agent of fusiform rust in loblolly pine (pinus taeda), for the purpose of integrating broad spectrum resistance in tree breeding programs.
During her masters at Michigan State University she led two projects focusing on genomic prediction for White Mold (sclerotinia sclerotiorum) resistance and improving methodology for screening root rot (fusarium oxysporum and rhizoctonia solani) resistance in dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) breeding lines.
